November 2009
THANK YOU AND APPEAL FOR WOOL
A big thank you to Mrs Jean Thorburn and all the ladies who have been busily knitting for the Ekwendeni Hospital in Malawi. A thank you also to Mrs Christina Donaldson and the Wednesday Club from Loanhead. All their hard work and enthusiasm is much appreciated.
As there was such a huge response to knitting the blankets there is now a need for more wool. If anyone has any wool they don't need please could you contact Mrs Thorburn on 01968 672 022.
Thank you also to everyone who has contributed to the ongoing collection of children's clothing. This is always very gratefully received by the staff at EMMS and they are delighted by our ongoing support from the North Kirk. If you have any children's clothing, baby blankets or girls' pants to donate, please contact Karen Thom on 01968 670 693.
All goods are going to great use and always needed. Every time a mum comes in to give birth a new blanket is put on the bed and when mum and baby go home the blanket is given along with a set of baby clothes/woollen clothes. The satellite hospital of the Ekwendeni Hospital that borders on Zambia accommodate on average 300 births a month so that's a lot of things!
Some photos of mums, babies and knitted woolens. The first photo is of a mum and her twins in the kangaroo ward - mums encouraged to keep newborn babies at their chest for warmth, rather than wrapped round their backs.
September 2009
Over recent months a number of the ladies in the church (and also outside the church) have been busily knitting and Crocheting blankets as well as some clothes. These were presented in church on Sunday, 6th September by Jean Thorburn to Chris Mackay, representing EMMS International. They will be sent to Malawi where they are badly needed.
